HDL-C and apoA-I as surrogate marker of survival in cirrhosis of liver

Background and Aim: Majority of deaths in patients with cirrhosis are due to progression a decompensated state, At present, the Child-Pugh score MELD mainly used predict mortality liver but they have certain limitations. Generally, level plasma lipids lipoproteins tends decrease severity disease. However, results studies were not same. Therefore, it could be generalized that levels progressively diminished deterioration status. Methods: This study was prospective observational conducted from May 2021 2023 department medical gastroenterology at Osmania college, Hyderabad over 100 Patients liver. HDL-C, apoA-I, CTP, MELD-Na scores calculated on admission follow up done for 6 months. Results: Among 77 male mean age 45.38 years having ethanol most common etiology. Amount decrement serum HDL, LDL total cholesterol, apoA-I had positive correlation damage. In present study, AUC HDL 90 days 0.961 0.975 respectively which highly statically significant. Conclusion: Baseline HDL-C < 19.5 mg/dl <40.5 associated dismal prognosis useful as single biomarkers predicting survival can easily measured routine clinical laboratories. Classification criteria may incorporate parameters increase their accuracy. Whether lipid-based treatment play prophylactic or therapeutic role management complications deserves further investigation.
